Anthem 5k 2016

This past Saturday, I paced my friend through her first 5k since having twins last fall. Her goal was to finish in under 45 minutes and we finished in 44:45, which is a PR for her! If you had told me that just over a year after starting to run that I would be doing this, I would've laughed in your face. It's amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it!

Sprinting to the finish.

Our friend Katie from grad school was visiting this weekend and she also ran it with us. It was so great to see her and I'm really glad she came! We went to her wedding last fall and it was nice to be able to spend time with her.

We ran/walked the anthem 5k Fitness Classic in Louisville, along with about 7000 other people. It's one of the largest timed 5k's in the nation and it was nuts downtown! The three miles flew by and the next thing I know, we're passing Batman and the Joker and crossing the finish line.

I usually run by myself because I don't like to chit chat since I feel like I sound like one of the Williams sisters playing tennis but we had a blast chatting about life and such. Mary and I are already planning the next race we're going to do together.

Life Lately

I haven't really been blogging much this month and it's not because I'm intentionally taking a blogging break. It's more that I just don't have much to say right now. We go to work, come home, eat dinner, play with the kids and rinse, repeat. I have taken a couple work trips to Ohio and currently North Carolina but I figure you all don't really want to hear about the mundane. I will tell you about a little mission I went on tonight for Alan...and wound up being successful after this was taken!

I've been running a lot still, and since I am doing a 5k with friends this weekend, expect a race recap soon! Being sick (I still have a lingering cough, boo!) has really messed with my half training so I have been having some second thoughts about running in April. I haven't registered yet, so we shall see how it goes in March before I make a final decision.

I haven't really been inclined to post much about the kids lately. Again, it's not intentional, but we haven't just done much that isn't part of our normal routine. Ewan did get into our choice school for kindergarten, so that's good! They're currently both in Kindermusik and I think we're going to sign Ewan up for t-ball this spring/summer. Exciting I know.

Maybe I should do a post about all the Pinterest crafts I will never do since I'm not crafty, ha! We shall see, we shall see.

Thanks for sticking with me - hopefully I will have something good for you soon!

Its OK February 23,2016

...that I got not one, not two, but three emails for VoxBox surveys from Influenster yesterday and didn't qualify for one of them.

...that I was way too excited to see the cast of Friends on TV Sunday night. That show is still my favorite and TV has not been the same since it ended.

...that I'm in North Carolina for work this week so the week will fly by.

...that I'm really excited to run/walk a 5k with my friend this weekend.

...that I'm also really excited to see my friend Katie from grad school this weekend. She's coming to visit! And she's doing the 5k with us!

It's OK February 16, 2016

...that my friend Bekah sent me an awesome Valentine's care package last week. Thank you again!

...that I have been down for the count for almost a week due to sickness.

...that I will never understand why the area I live in cannot handle winter. I live in Indiana, a Midwestern state, yet I might as well live in Mississippi or something with the way Southern Indiana deals with snow.

...that I really want to run six miles with the running group this weekend but might have to settle for four.

...that my half marathon training has been really messed with with being ill the past week.

...that I really don't have much to say right now!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Valentine's Day! I am personally stuck on the couch, sick as a dog. Pretty sure I've got strep or tonsillitis and will be headed to the doctor tomorrow since I have had a sore throat and can barely swallow since Thursday. The good news, I guess, is that I haven't had a fever since Friday. Right?

I have been alternating gargling apple cider vinegar, warm salt water and coconut oil to treat it and while I can turn my neck without excruciating pain, my glands in my neck are still pretty swollen and I have been pretty much living off of garlic broth and chicken noodle soup. Happy Valentine's Day to me!

We were supposed to go visit my mom this weekend and finally do Christmas but because I'm so sick, we opted to stay home. She actually told me to stay away so she doesn't get sick. With her health the way it is, I don't blame her one bit.

Alan and I didn't do anything for each other this year, which is totally fine - I'm horrible at being creative for these types of holidays anyway. Although, he did tell me that his gift to me is that he will run a 5k with me this year. Personally, I think that that's a pretty awesome gift. So, while I'm finally finishing The Tudors on Netflix today (which I started watching while on maternity leave with Ewan!), I'll be looking up 5k races.

Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!

It's Ok February 9, 2016

...that we have a principal interview with the school where we want to send Ewan today and I'm quite nervous about it.

...that I am so happy I dragged my butt out of bed early Saturday morning to run with the River Run training group. I met some new running friends and had some of my best times. I usually run by myself because it always seems like no one wants to run with a slow poke...but I wasn't so slow this time!

...that I took Ewan on a mommy and son date to SkyZone last week and spent the entire time terrified I was going to bust my knee again.

...that we're finally celebrating Christmas with my mom this weekend...as well as Valentine's Day.

February Goals

I'm normally on top of things and have my goals up on the first day of the month. But, life got in the way last week and the blog went on the back burner for the week. I do have goals for the month, however, but before I list them here is a recap of January:
  • Enjoy Disney! We did, except for the day I got sick at Epcot. I have almost finished writing about our trip.
  • Make sure Ewan has a wonderful 5th birthday and party.  Done! He had a wonderful birthday and a small party here at home. He had a blast for both! Even if I was a goof and didn't take any photos of his birthday party...

  • Figure something out to get Cecily to go to bed. Fail. Fail. FAIL. She still is going to bed with me and has now started refusing to nap at home!
  • Come up with a new 101 in 1001. Yeah...I meant to do this before the end of January and well, life.
Here are my goals for February:

  • Create a new 101 in 1001.
  • Finish writing about our Disney trip.
  • See about changing up some design elements on the blog. This has been something I have been wanting to do for quite some time but I don't like change so I'm going to start with some tweaking.
  • Run 30 miles this month. I should easily be able to accomplish this because of half marathon training.
  • Meal plan and cook more at home. Last fall and now the beginning of this year have been crazy busy for us and I have gotten out of the habit of cooking and meal planning. Therefore we have been eating out a lot more which is no bueno.
There you have it. Hopefully I'll be able to accomplish all of this and more!

It's OK February 2, 2016

...that I could care less if the groundhog saw his shadow today.

...I got to see a friend that moved away last fall yesterday.

...that life got in the way and I didn't get to finish Disney Week on the blog last week.

...that I started half marathon training last week...again.

...that I really do think I have lost my mind for wanting to run another half marathon!
