This was after the water had receded some. When I looked out the window around 1AM the entire street had flooded, there was water up to and into our garage and half of our front yard had flooded. It's hard to tell in the photo of our backyard, but there's a water mark almost to the top of the little picket fence on the play house. All the backyards of the houses on the other side of the fence are completely underwater.
We've replaced the weatherstripping on the garage door, evened out the concrete and even put a reusable sandbag down in front of the door last night. Short of replacing the door and hoping that works, we're at a loss.
WHY did my water and trash bill go up for a major sewer overhaul of the city? WHEN are they fixing my street?
I think I want to move...
Oh my gosh! That is awful!! I hope the water recedes quickly and there's not any damage. :( Is there ANYTHING the city can do to get rid of the water faster?!!?
ReplyDeleteThere's this 30 year master plan to upgrade the sewers to national standards or some nonsense but whether or not we're in the plan, I have no idea. Our street floods every heavy rain but has only been this bad once before where it got into our garage, crawl space and basement - we don't have anything on the floor of the garage that we care about getting ruined this time, but when it happened last summer we did lose some stuff. We and our neighbors have complained to the city about it but we were told that "we live in a low area" yet our street is the only one that floods in the ENTIRE neighborhood. Yes we live in a city along the Ohio River and there are many areas that flood. It's all ridiculousness. The sewer system is old and not designed well. We never would've bought this house had we known!
ReplyDeleteoh wow, that is a ton of water!!
ReplyDeleteIt sucks :(
ReplyDeleteOh I hate it when that happens!! We have a creek that runs through the very back of our back yard and it seems like once or twice a year, every year, when we get a really big storm, this happens. Hopefully they get the sewer issues figured out soon so that you guys can have your backyard back!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it sucks about the yard, but we're more concerned about the water that got in the garage!
ReplyDeleteWow that is crazy. Please send some of the water my way. We got some rain last night but it wasn't enough to fulfill our drought. I wonder if you have someone redo your driveaway if it would help prevent the water from getting into the garage.
ReplyDeleteThere is about a half inch gap at the corners between the door and driveway. We're just at a loss as to how to seal it because everything we've tried hasn't worked. We actually did try to build a concrete lip along there to keep the water out...obviously it worked so well!
ReplyDeleteI was going to make a suggestion but I just read your comment to Christy about the concrete. I don't even know what to say but I'm sorry. How frustrating. Have you been in this house since you moved back? Of course these are things they don't tell you when you are looking to buy.
ReplyDeleteWe lived in a townhouse for a year before buying the house. A lot of the city floods during heavy rains, but we thought we weren't in one of those areas...and we aren't really because it's just our street! Alan looked up the sewer master plan and our section is due to start in 2018. The plan goes til 2040, so I guess I should be glad it's only four years away instead of 30...
ReplyDeleteOh my Gosh! looks like my place =( Seriously, these cities need to get on the ball. My town is SLOOOOWLY trying to address the issue, but tons more need to be done. At least it doesn't get in my house, YET!! Yesterday my kids went out and were up their waists in water in a ditch across the road. Up to their shins in bend in the road. It's ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteSo much water! Ugh.
ReplyDeleteYay Holly! You're doing great, keep up the good work! Maybe you didn't go to the gym 3 times a week but you still exercised, that's better than not working towards the goal at all :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you also have to deal with this :( My city has a 30 year plan and my area is due for upgrade in several years. I guess it's better than being at the end of the plan but I wish it was RIGHT NOW!
ReplyDeleteYeah. Half the city flooded because it was apparently built on a swamp!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! That is so much water, so horrible!
ReplyDeleteStopping by from the Goals linky. I need to work on mine for April achievements/May goals. Hope you got that herb garden started. I have rosemary and cilantro in mine and love it!
