2. Sand or snow? Snow.
3. What Winter Olympic sport would you rock at? I would probably suck, but I'm fascinated by curling. He loves curling! He wanted to join the local curling club when we lived in PA. Now he stays up all night to watch it since it's not shown during primetime during the Olympics.
4. You're cooking a romantic dinner- what is your go-to dish? I don't know how to cook. Lies! He's an awesome cook, but doesn't do it very often. He says that he doesn't want me to get used to it...men!
5. Fill in the blank: This year, I gave Holly a bunch of paper for Valentine's Day. He did. I give him crap because I have gotten flowers three times in the almost seven years we have been together so he made me paper flowers so I can never say he didn't give me flowers again :-) I love his creativity!

Interesting meme, I've never seen this one before.
ReplyDeleteIt's been going on about six months or so. I love it because you get a different perspective on peoples' blogs!
ReplyDeleteI love the paper flowers! that's awesome.
ReplyDeleteThose flowers look really good! Eric made me roses and they turned out good as well:)
ReplyDeleteThe paper flowers are lovely! and I think I will have to Google what curling is! LOL
ReplyDeleteI love places like this. I'm looking forward to taking munchkin and exploring some of the small towns near us this summer. I couldn't last year for a variety of reasons, but this year should be much better for it.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I love those flowers..and they will keep forever. I love it! I need to get my man behind the blog to make me some! :-)
ReplyDeleteHe made them in his downtime while on a trip for work. They're now my dining room table centerpiece :-)
ReplyDeleteThose flowers are beautiful! So creative! :) Also, I'm not so sure that curling would be my first choice for my Winter Olympics debut, but someone's got to do it, right!? Though, I'm not sure that anyone would actually want to see me do ANY winter sport...as I still cling to the sides of the arena when I got ice skating and I've never even seen enough snow to go skiing on!
ReplyDeleteAww, the flowers are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSo cute, what a creative thinker you have. ;p

Our downtown area has gone through a revitalization project over the last 2 or 3 years. The area just looked so rundown and decrepit. Some buildings they tore down, but some they just gave a facelift and rented out the space. New apartment complexes were also built (with extraordinary price points, I might add), and a nice park was developed in the center of the area.
ReplyDeleteHe DID do an awesome job making the flowers....neither Sean or I could pull that off :)
ReplyDeleteCrafty, time-consuming and I don't get along so this is super awesome that he made them. Maybe one of these days I'll tell you about how making pew bows for our wedding went... :-)
ReplyDeleteI've only been skiing in Michigan when I was in middle school, but it was tons of fun! I actually took ice skating lessons when I was pretty little. We had an ice rink at the food court of the mall - that place was awesome! I think my mom wanted me to be a figure skater LOL
ReplyDeleteI live in a city of over 100,000 also, which is slowly bringing back its historic downtown and other historic neighborhoods. I work in historic preservation so this is a cherished topic of mine.
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous that you are living in Europe! One of the things I love about being over there is that they still use their markets for the most part. Here it's like everyone has the mentality that we have so much space that who cares if we just tear everything else down.
ReplyDeleteThose flowers are so awesome! And they won't die--now he'll never have to give you flowers again :).
ReplyDeleteThese are from small town Indiana :-) One of the things I love and miss about the East Coast is that I would drive by places that were so much older than what we have out here. It was nothing to drive by a 200+ year old house, but here, those just don't exist.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's nice to have the new stuff too :-) I live in what would be considered a suburban neighborhood in my city, even though it's 50 years old now.
ReplyDeleteVery cool - I hope that happens in our city as well.
ReplyDeleteI live in an area that is mostly desert. So we don't have anything like a main street. But about an hour away there is a cute little town with brick buildings and old homes turned into businesses. I love it there and the tree lines streets.
ReplyDeleteI have a few home grown businesses that I love and frequent. They have to re-invent themselves to stay up-to-date and survive.
ReplyDeleteI agree Holly! I've had very frustrating times when I go to visit a blog and find they have the same layout as mine, plus colors, gadgets... It feels like if I go through all that hard work of designing and someone else copies mine it's not even worth it. That's maybe why I change my blog around so much haha! I think it's coincidental, but I was just about to ask you how you like the Disqus commenting system. I'm thinking about adding it but not for sure yet. ;)
ReplyDeleteHaha ohhhh curling! You would think men would say something like the speed sled thing.. cause it's FAST! Haha! I think it's something about the physics of curling that men are attracted to.. it's so funny.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE those flowers! I do like real flowers, but it's not a must have for me. Because they just don't last a long time. But your flowers will and that's so cool!
Hahaha. That's exactly the reason he made them :-)
ReplyDeleteDisqus is ok. I had a lot of problems in the beginning with spam comments, comments not showing up...I wrote a whole post on it actually. http://www.backhomeagainblog.com/2013/11/my-thoughts-on-disqus.html I think that there are other commenting systems out there that I would like better, but I haven't been able to figure out how to get rid of it without losing all or some of my comments in the process. It has gotten better the more I've used it, but then they went and changed their whole site on me and I've been trying to figure it out again :-)
ReplyDeleteJust a little venting rant going on here :-) I primarily blog for myself and for my readers. While I do get frustrated with not getting opportunities I apply for that I feel I should, I try not to sweat it too much. As for the copying issue, I keep telling myself that imitation is the best form of flattery...somedays that works better than others though!
ReplyDeleteHahaha yes, yes they do! :-)
ReplyDeleteI live in one of those small towns and work just down the street from downtown. I love driving past it every day and picturing everyone walking around and milling around downtown. My husband and I chose to move back to my hometown from a big city when we started our family. We love the simple quiet life.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures and the first part of your post reminds me of the town I lived in as a teenager. I do my best support small local businesses where I live, it is so important to support your community, and yes I also purchase from the big box stores.
ReplyDeleteThank you! He is pretty creative. He doesn't think so, but I love that he makes all sorts of gifts for me.
ReplyDeleteWe love the Winter Olympics here, but while my favorite is figure skating, he's all about curling. Silly husband!
ReplyDeleteI shop at Target and we go to Lowe's on occasion, but that's about it. I try to support local, small businesses or at the least local chains.
ReplyDeleteThey do sadly.
ReplyDeleteNice to know revitilization is happening all over!
ReplyDeleteWe take lots of little day trips to small town festivals in our area. It's a great way to learn about what's going on in your area.
ReplyDeleteMe too :-) I grew up in a city of 200,000+ and unfortunately only a few blocks of the historic downtown remain. While there are historic neighborhoods, it would be nice to see that downtown there too.
ReplyDeleteIt is sad to see so many cool buildings on Main Streets going vacant and abandoned. I admire the people who take time and resource to restore them and give them love.
ReplyDeleteI am right there with you, sister! I have had projects of mine blatantly copied by "bigger bloggers" (those with huge followings and even bigger egos) which is completely wrong in any setting. We as bloggers should be encouraging each other, promoting each other, and getting along in the same neighborhood! You are right - blogging is not a competition! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I have a CopyPro plugin on my site, which sometimes makes it difficult when someone wants a picture for a hop, but if they are going to steal my content, they are going to have to do more than cut and paste!
ReplyDeleteGrowing up in Washington, DC, I could experience both sides, high end or high street. Everything was sectioned off and if you wanted a particular style of clothing, food, or art, you knew where to go. It's still that way today. Walmart and Target were not even thought of and the local shops were the hit of the town. I still believe that local shops are important to Washington, DC, being that it is so small. However, I have discovered, since my last visit, that it is indeed becoming more city-like, commercialized, and implementing more of the modern ways of doing business and interacting with tourists and residents alike.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting discussion. I love the idea of going back to the High Street. This last Christmas, anything that I did not purchase online, was purchased from my little town's High Street. It was the first time I had ever made a concerted effort to do so. It was fantastic! Not only did I meet some great people whom I would have otherwise never met in my town, I was able to look at our revitalized "downtown" completely differently. It's really cool to be able to associate faces and good experiences with shops. I know for sure that the impressions they made will keep me going back to those little shops when it is time to get a gift or otherwise. It also felt good to give my hard earned cash to someone who was working equally as hard locally. All around awesome!
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's hard to shop local because everything is a tad bit higher but truthfully that is the only way we are going to get back to what we used to be. What we really need to get back to in my opinion. When people had pride in what they made and where they were from.
ReplyDeleteSo, here in Durango Colorado, Main street is ALWAYS hoppin! We live in a tourist town so the tourists shop on Main. You won't catch me buying from there! WAY overpriced (just like the houses here!). So I buy from Walmart and Amazon. That is all we have here in Durango. But in my hometown of Algonquin IL, Main street is a ghost town (except for all the traffic!). No one shops there or even goes there anymore which makes me sad.
ReplyDeleteI love the reminder to support the little guy. I think that small business Saturday really brings this topic to the forefront. I have also grown fond of Walmart, but also try to support the local mom and pops too.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great topic. After living overseas for 2 years and working in many different countries, I totally support the little guy (or gal). When I walked into my first Walmart in 2 years I felt OVERWHELMED. It was easier than I thought to get accustomed to shopping around at little specialty stores and really seeking fresh produce at markets that everything CRAMMED together in a city block of a store just felt wrong. I hope that Main Streets make a comeback in a big way, and that communities can begin to grow together again, instead of isolating ourselves behind our mega shopping carts.
ReplyDeleteThat is something I love about Europe, there are still butchers, and produce markets and fish markets etc. I love going from store to store and forming relationships with the proprietors. Some of that is happening in the States and in my town, but I wish more people would get on board with it.
ReplyDeleteSmall business Saturday definitely helps this cause!
ReplyDeleteI agree that we should get back to that. As a preservationist, I think about all the building forms and art forms that have been lost due to mechanization. What would we do if all that were gone someday?
ReplyDeleteYour comment is exactly what I'm talking about :-)
ReplyDeleteMain Street in our city slowly and surely came to an end several years ago, but thanks to city grants and the local colleges chipping in to revitalize our Main Street and downtown, it's now hopping with local businesses and restaurants. It's actually fun again to visit Main Street!
ReplyDeleteI try to shop local if possible, except for groceries. I just cannot afford the prices that my local grocery store charges. It is cheaper for me to travel 30 minutes and pay gas and time then to go to my local grocery store. In my town they are working on rebuilding the main street, several businesses have moved in, some stay, some don't. I try to support them if it is something I am interested in.
ReplyDeleteI often wish I could live in a city that had a street like Main Street. What was once a Main St in our town has turned into a bad combination of tattoo parlors, iffy grocery stores, and adult entertainment. Sad :( I do support a lot of the locals when I get to shop at the Farmer's Market.
ReplyDeleteHere on Long Island, there are many little villages, most notably on the south shore, where the street name changes to Main Street and it is full of shops and restaurants. These areas are very busy for the most part! We have no problem supporting the local restaurants, but the specialty shops prove too expensive for us. If money was no object, we'd surely shop local. The one thing about these villages though is I wish they did more to restore how it used to look. The colonial homes that are part of the village have to conform to certain historical codes for the exterior--can't change shutters, replacement windows have to have a certain look, etc., but I don't see the same for the businesses.
ReplyDeleteSome of the best neighborhoods in Denver and Northern Colorado are in those which have a thriving little High Street. I am living in suburbia now and despise it. Mind you I'm in the midst of farm country, so there is also no access to shopping within 10 miles, but I cannot wait to move back into a neighborhood with a Main Street... it creates such a sense of community!
ReplyDeleteIt is so sad to see that main streets are disappearing. In my old town of Heber City, UT though main street was alive and functioning quite well... with a population a little over 10k it was a great little town. now my home town I see down town dying and the city trying hard to revive it, but unsuccessfully :(
ReplyDeleteI love main streets. I grew up in an area where main street "downtown" was where everything was and it still is that way. When we go back to visit each something, i get excited to go down, and excited to show my daughter where I spent endless afternoons and evenings in the summer hanging around with friends, working, shopping, eating, playing in the park ect. Finding a good main street/ downtown is rare these days.
ReplyDeleteMy city Main Street is not such much a hub like it was when I was younger. Now we have mini mails within the city geared toward tourists and that is where the locals go also. I miss the charm of certain buildings and the atmosphere what went along with it. It seems you still have that where you are, very fortunate.
ReplyDeleteOur main street is not like it was when I was younger, just a mini mall for tourists where the locals also gravitate too. I miss the buildings and atmosphere, You are fortunate
