Sayonara Cable!

We gave up cable starting at the beginning of this month. Our old provider had been bought out and the new provider upped our bill by about $20, so we said nope, we're done! We have been debating whether or not to cancel our cable for awhile now. Several friends and family members have done so several months ago and we don't really watch much anyway, so why should we pay $100/month for a service we barely use? We got a Roku and Amazon Prime and between that and a digital antenna, we're covered with what we want to watch. While we had to pay a little to get set up, we will more than pay for it with what we're saving by not paying for cable in a few months. We will ultimately save $600 a YEAR by getting rid of cable.

So, what are we going to do with this extra money?

Pay off bills.

Put some towards next year's vacation (Is it bad that I'm already planning our next vacation, when we just had one?).

Put some toward our fifth wedding anniversary trip.

What would you do with $600 extra a year?

  1. I have totally been thinking about canceling our cable as well. I can pretty much watch anything that I normally watch via the Internet. It is totally worth saving over $1,000 a year!

  2. We just made the same decision! Once you add it up and see how much it really costs you over a year, it's hard to stomach it.

  3. I can't wait until our contract is up and we can get away from it!

  4. I've been without cable for a few years. I only get 3 channels on my tv but honestly with the internet & netflix I don't miss it. I can usually even find my sporting events online live which beats the delay the networks seem to impose. Congrats you will be amazed at how much free time you gain by no longer channel surfing to watch something you aren't even interested in.

    1. We get all the major network channels but we've mainly been watching Superwhy with E :-) I grew up without cable so it really isn't that big of a deal for me. The only thing I miss is watching the Kardashians on Sundays. My mindless vice!

  5. Welcome to the club! We've been without cable for years and the only thing we miss is sports. And even then its more fun to attend in person, plus we get quite a few channels on the digital antenna.

I love comments so leave me some love!
