Thanksgiving Weekend

Alan, Ewan and I spent Thanksgiving at my in-laws in Louisville. While we were going to Fort Wayne on Friday for my friend Mary's wedding, my family always goes to Florida the day after Thanksgiving, so they were busy getting ready for their trip. We had a good day full of LOTS of food and fun times with family. Apparently, Alan used to build a gingerbread house with our niece, Kayla, when she was younger. Alan's brother, Bob, brought back the tradition since this was the first Thanksgiving the family was together in a long time. Ewan also had a good time. He's finally getting big enough that he can play with his cousins some. I just love watching him experience new things!

Alan and I debated about going out at midnight for Black Friday, but we ultimately decided against it. We had to leave early to drive up to the Fort to meet my family for lunch before they left for Florida. Personally, that is totally ok with me! I've worked in retail for too many years to want to deal with that crap, even as a shopper. Nothing is worth it! On a side note - one thing I am thankful for is to no longer work in retail, I no longer dread the holidays!

Once we got to the Fort, we met my family at their usual haunt for lunch. They hadn't seen Ewan since September and they couldn't believe how much he has grown. Even though we only got to see them for a short time, it was really nice. I can't wait until New Year's when we get to celebrate Christmas and Ewan's birthday with them.

After we had lunch, we stopped in at the bank where I used to work and saw my friend Tara. I hadn't seen her since we came to visit from PA when Ewan was a few weeks old. We also met her, her husband and daughter for breakfast on Sunday before we left town. It was really nice to catch up. Hopefully it won't be another year before I see her!

After we checked into our hotel Friday afternoon, I went and helped Mary's decorate her reception hall. I've never been into Yolo, and it was really nice. Very swanky! I then picked up Ewan and Alan and went to the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. Unfortunately, Ewan was pretty cranky and we wound up having to leave the rehearsal dinner early. Honestly, that was ok though because I had to get up at 5:30 in the morning for her wedding!

Saturday morning, I got up at the buck crack of dawn to go to breakfast with the girls. We then got our hair did before getting ready for the wedding. While I was doing my bridesmaid duties, Alan and Ewan were out shopping. Ewan was asleep throughout the entire ceremony and was farily good during the reception. However, we decided to leave once he fell asleep. I was exhausted and we had a long drive back to Evansville the next day. Overall, it was an ok time.

After we met Tara and her family for breakfast, we stopped by my aunt and uncle's to say hi. We had intended on staying about an hour or so, but didn't get out of there until almost four hours later. I totally should've known! Ewan had a good time playing with his cousins. Who knew Dustin was so good with kids? Once we finally left, I had a LONG car ride in the back seat with Ewan to Evansville. Let's just say I was so glad to finally get out of the car!

Overall, it was a good weekend. As much as I'm not looking forward to turning 30 in less than a week, I'm really looking forward to an adult night out this weekend!

Horrible Blogger!

I know, I know. I've been horrible at blogging the month of November. Between being busy at work, Thanksgiving and my friend Mary's wedding, I haven't had a chance to blog the last couple of weeks. A real update will be coming soon. I promise!

Aces Homecoming

This weekend is UE's homecoming and as part of the festivities, Alan and I went to the Fiddick Lecture last night. The Fiddick Lecture is an annual history lecture. While I was a history major, I sadly never went to much having to do with my department. I was too concerned with partying! Now that we're back in Evansville, I'm trying to be more involved with the History Department and UE in general as an alumna. The lecture itself was ok. I personally thought the speaker was a little all over the place and it was somewhat difficult to follow. However, there was this guy behind us that was hacking up a lung the whole time, which was really annoying me. Turns out it was Dr. Gugin! He "asked" a question that turned out to be a story about him and Dr. Fiddick playing golf. Totally random, but it was so him. A lot of the older alumni in the audience (myself included sadly!) thought it was hilarious because we knew him while at UE. The current students as well as Alan thought he was nuts I'm sure! There was a history reception at the May House afterwards and Alan and I stopped by for a bit. We had told Chris and Megan that we would pick Ewan up around 9 and since the lecture ran late, we were only able to stay about 20 minutes or so. I would've loved to have stayed longer, but such is the life of a parent! At least I did get to speak to several of my former professors.

This afternoon we went to the Aces basketball game at the Ford Center downtown. I had bought tickets for the homecoming game v. Butler and it was a really good game! Both Alan and I figured they would get stomped because Butler is a really good team. And for awhile it seemed that way. But, in the second half, UE came back and wound up winning in overtime! I don't know that much about basketball, but there was a weird call at the end. Butler scored to win it right at the end buzzer. However, the refs had to review it because it was too close to call. Apparently, they couldn't decide so they fouled a UE player (which apparently isn't allowed in hindsight) and gave the player from Butler a chance for free throws. However, he missed both of them and the game went into overtime.

I was so excited to take Ewan to a game. I haven't been to one since I went to a Ball State v. UE game at BSU while in grad school. I actually caught myself tearing up because I love exposing Ewan to new things, especially things that mean a lot to me.

Not that I really want everyone out there knowing what I weigh and how much I've gained. But, since my weight loss rant about a month ago, I've lost almost 10 lbs and am now back under 200...just barely.

But, I'll take it!

First Hockey Game

Saturday night Alan, Ewan and I went to the Evansville IceMen opening hockey game v. the Fort Wayne Komets. It was the first public event in the new stadium here in Evansville and let me tell you, hockey is a BIG DEAL here! I, of course, was going to root for my hometown, Fort Wayne, but they lost. Boo.

To be honest, hockey is boring! I really do think it's worse than football. Ewan thought so too, seeing as he fell asleep. Maybe he can go with Alan when he gets a little older. Somehow, I don't see myself going to games that often.

Ten Months!

Yesterday marked Ewan's 10 month "birthday." I know I say this every month, but holy cow! My baby boy is quickly coming up on his first birthday! November and December always fly by and then his first birthday really will be upon us. I guess it's a good thing I'm a planner and already have his birthday somewhat planned then!

Here's an update on my little guy. As of today, he has 7 teeth, four on top, three on the bottom. He's finally pulling up and wants to be standing almost all the time. Therefore, he's getting into even more and more stuff. We had to break out the safety gear this weekend because he discovered outlets and the toilet. He likes to crawl over anything and everything he can, including us! He's also very into chasing the cats around. Poor kitties, they have no clue what's in store once he can walk!

We had an eventful day yesterday. We went to Wesselman Woods in the afternoon for a walk before going to the Evansville IceMen v. Fort Wayne Komets hockey game (more about the game later). Ewan slept through most of our walk, but loved swinging at the playground.

Ten Months!
Enjoying our walk

I'm stuck!
