So I had gallbladder surgery today. People kept telling me that it's cake, in and out in a day, minimal pain, etc.

I'm in more pain now than I was after my c section. My shoulders ache something awful because of the gas pains, my abdomen and side hurt so bad I can barely move and can't take deep breaths because I'm in so much pain. I feel like I need to burp constantly and I can't because it hurts so bad, so it's trapped, which makes breathing even harder.

Plus. I feel like I have to pee all the time, except that when I go to the bathroom, only a trickle comes out. wtf?!

Oh yeah, my mouth is so incredibly dry I can barely talk. I have NO saliva. The only thing I can eat is soup, everything else I have to wash down because it gets stuck in my throat.

I was given percocet, but they barely dull the pain. This is nuts. I can't even pick up my child and I'm going to have to pump to feed him. Luckily I had built up a bit of a stash so he's only had a little formula today. As much as I've bitched about breastfeeding, I actually do like it some. I love looking into his intelligent little eyes as he's eating - the looks he gives me are precious. I'm nervous about my supply dropping in the next few days. I was told to pump and dump for 24 hours and even though kellymom.com says you can breastfeed, I'm going to be cautious. It does suck to see all that milk being dumped though.

Sorry this is so jumbled. I really hope this pain stops soon. As in, tomorrow!

Friday's for Lunch

On Saturday, Alan, Ewan and I met my friend Shanna, her husband John and daughter Breanna in Belair, MD for lunch. This is the last of our Maryland meetups since we're moving in a week. (AAAHHH!!!!)

John and Shanna treated us to lunch, which was really nice of them. I'm gonna miss getting together with her out here - it's been really nice having someone to hang out with on occasion here. Hopefully we will be able to get together again sometime when they come out to visit her family in Wisconsin - and not five years from now!

Spring Fever

Since it's been so nice the past few days, I decided to take Ewan on his first walk in the stroller. While he slept the entire time, I can't wait until it stays warm so I can take him on walks everyday. Wesselman Woods here we come!

Go Aces!

How Ironic

So Alan just dropped his Motorola Droid into the toilet...and I recycled our old phones not too long ago. Hopefully his phone still works!

We're Moving!

I can officially announce this now. We're moving...to Evansville! Never in a million years did I think I would move back to Evansville, but Alan was offered a job as an architectural historian and we decided it's time to be closer to our families. We will be two hours from Alan's family in Louisville and five hours from mine in Fort Wayne.

I'm still in shock that I'm going to be living there, but I know it will be different than just going to college there. It's all happening pretty quickly - gallbladder surgery on Tuesday, we're moving out of our apartment here in PA at the end of the month, staying with Alan's parents in Louisville for a week and then moving into our place the first weekend of March.

I need a new name for my blog!

One Month Checkup

I took Ewan to his one month checkup this morning. By myself. This was the first time I've ventured out by myself with Ewan and I was terrified he would be really fussy and I wouldn't be able to calm him. Luckily he was as good as can be and I was able to do a couple errands as well. I think he shows off when he's around other people because he's never that calm when it's just me!

He's now in the 75th percentile for weight at 10lbs 4oz, 50th for length at 22" and 90th for head circumference at 15.5". I knew he would be up there for his head because this kid has a big noggin'! That just means he's gonna be smart like his mommy. They told me to switch him to soy for any supplements we give him to help with the gassiness and constipation. I was also told to give him a couple ounces of water with a little apple juice to help him go. I'm really trying my hardest to not give him any formula at all to help get his digestive system back on track, even though that means I literally sit on the couch with him attached to me all day long. How I'm supposed to pump to build a little stash for when my gallbladder comes out, I have no idea. The pediatrician also told me that he has a cold and not rsv or anything else, that his lungs sound good and since newborns can't breathe through their mouths yet, it's going to sound worse than it is. I know everyone thinks I'm a crazy first time mom, but I can't help it. It scares the crap out of me to hear him coughing and congested when he's this little. We got a humidifier and I bought some saline drops today so hopefully that will help. I'm still going to keep an eye on it and if it gets worse I may just take him to the er.

One Month Old

I can't believe my baby boy is already a month old! Some of the things he's doing include cooing and making faces at us, smiling, holding his head up more easily and being awake for longer periods of time during the day.

Even though I have to supplement several ounces a day, I've also made it to my mini goal of breastfeeding for a month. While it's still rough at times (especially at night!), it's definitely gotten easier. I'm still not one of those crazy moms that will breastfeed until their kid is four, but my ultimate goal of 6 months seems much more doable now.

I really should be in bed, but since it's the first kid free moment I've had all day, I thought I would post. One month pics will be coming soon!

It's Back

The pain I never wanted to feel again is back :( I've had two gallbladder attacks since Saturday, one Saturday night while we were stopped in Pittsburgh overnight that was manageable and one awful one that landed me in the ER last night. I have a consultation scheduled to have my gallbladder out for next Monday and I called this morning to see if I could get the appointment moved up and was told no, that my surgeon is only in the office on Mondays. That's a load of crap. My surgery is going to be at a different hospital than where I went last night and if it happens again, I'm thinking I'm gonna have Alan take me to their ER so we can just get it out already. I haven't had a problem since August and I was hoping that it would stay that way. Who would've thought some tiny organ that doesn't really do much could cause so much pain.
