Sunday Ramblings

A week from now, I will be in Orlando! While I'm not exactly thrilled to be in 90 degree temperatures, I'm so excited to get away for a bit. Even if I wind up spending the whole week in the house or in the pool except for the day we go to NASA and our free Disney day, it'll be so nice to not have to work for a week. I really really hope we can find a way for me to be a SAHM or at the very least go part time. I know that I'm probably dreaming, at least while we're on the East Coast because it's so expensive out here. If all goes how we want, then next summer we'll either have moved, or be moving back to somewhere in the Midwest. Can we say CHEAP? I would be able to work part time with what Alan makes now if we lived there.

Now I just have to get through the next 5.5 days of work...

Alan and I went to Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown Friday and Saturday. I've been wanting to go for ages, and I know that we will not be taking many big trips for the near future, so we decided to take a small one. I was so excited, but personally I didn't think Williamsburg was worth the hype. It's a lot like Greenfield Village for those of you that have been there, but all about colonial America. I know that the buildings at Greenfield Village were brought to Michigan, but I think I like the fact that the structures have a large amount of significance. Several examples, There are structures pertaining to Thomas Edison and the Wright Brothers there. I realize that at Williamsburg, all structures are in their original locations, and that they do have some significance, but to me, I like the fact that when you visit Greenfield Village, almost everyone has heard of the residents of the buildings. This is totally odd coming from me too, since you would think that I would love everything about Williamsburg since it's associated with England. Maybe it was the heat, I dunno.

By the way, I really don't recommend spending all day walking in 90 degree weather when you're pregnant. So not fun! And I'm going to Disneyworld in less than 2 weeks...whose idea was it to go to Florida in June anyway? I may spend my frist trip to Disney in the house with the a/c the entire time.

But, I digress. Back to our weekend. We went to Jamestown on Saturday, which I enjoyed so much more. It was still ridiculously hot, so who knows, maybe it was the ambiance of Williamsburg? We went to both Historic Jamestown and Jamestown Settlement, one owned by the NPS and the other by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Jamestown Settlement is a reconstruction of the fort, a Powhatan village and the ships that brought the colonists to America. It was seriously cool to explore the structures, and especially go on the ships. They were so much smaller than I expected. Makes me glad to be alive in the time period that I am because I don't know if I could deal with those conditions!

After the settlement, we drove over to Historic Jamestown, which is the archaeological site of the fort and town that eventually developed. It was seriously cool. We explored the site of the fort, spent some time along the James River and checked out the museum which has some artifacts from the fort. Unfortunately, we didn't walk down to the site of the town, which I would have liked to do. It was just too hot and I was exhausted.

But, since we left earlier, that meant that we got to spend more time with Shanna, John and their adorable new baby girl, Breanna. We met them for dinner on our way back to PA since we were driving almost right past their house. It was good to see them, and Breanna is so cute.

It was a good weekend, I just wish that I didn't feel so tired all the time!

I had my first ultrasound today! At first I was really freaked out because all you could see was the yolk sac, but then she got the baby. We didn't get to hear the heartbeat, but we got to see it. I was so relieved to see the baby and know that everything is ok.

She measured Gizmo a week behind at 7w2d and gave me a new due date of 12/28, but I personally am sticking with 12/19. Since I chart, I know when I ovulated, and I can tell you that NO baby was made a week later than I thought!

Unfortunately, I only have about 3/4 of a picture because the u/s machine ran out of film when she was trying to print pictures. I was a little pissed that she wouldn't change the film, but at least we have a picture of Gizmo!

So, Alan just called me at work to tell me that Powder has been going in and out of the litterbox every 20 minutes or so, and crying like she wants to be fed or wants attention. i just don't know what to do with this cat! It seems like every 8-9 months or so, she gets a UTI. We've tried switching her food, putting her on the vet recommended wet food that costs $30 for 20 cans. Which she won't eat. We won't be able to take her to the vet until tomorrow afternoon because Alan has a meeting in the morning, and I already have to make up time this week for my Dr. appointment on Tuesday. I'm just terrified that they're going to tell us something is really wrong with her, and suggest we put her down. That would kill both Alan and I....

New Car!

Well, we got Alan a car today. It's a 2006 Hyundai Elantra. We got it at the same place in Glenolden that we bought my car last summer. The a/c needs to be fixed and we have to bring in his Explorer this week since we're trading it in. But, by next weekend the car will be ours. The best thing is that the payments won't be much more than what we're paying on my car now.

And, while we were test driving the Elantra and several other cars, I found a Little Caesar's! That was probably the best part of the day for me. It's my favorite pizza place, and I only get it when we go back to Indiana. Surprise! I can now get it whenever I's just a 20 min drive away.

Finally, we did our volunteer stuff for our free Disney day this morning. We planted flowers in Woodbury, NJ with their Main Street. It was supposed to be from 8-12, but actually wound up being from 8-10. Works for me!
