June Goals and May Recap

May was a whirlwind. Alan and I both were busy at work and then I spent the last week in Ft. Wayne helping move my mom out of her place (which is a whole other post if I ever decide to talk about it). So, I wasn't able to post as much as I would've liked and my stats definitely took a hit. Ooops! Not that I really care all that much about them, but I guess I better do some work to fix that.

As for my goals, however, I did awesome.

  • Sort and price items for the yard sale. Even though we postponed our sale by a week due to rain, and were up pricing items the night before, we made over $400 at our sale. Apparently a holiday weekend is the time to hold one!
  • Sign up for my 5k. Done. I wrote about it here
  • Enjoy the weekend trip Alan has planned this month. We had a great time in Nashville over Mother's Day. Thanks for planning it Love!
  • Not flip out when Alan "remodels" our kitchen in a few weeks. The "remodel" didn't happen because Alan had to postpone his vacation due to being crazy busy at work. Guess that's what happens when you're the boss! He's planning on doing this in June.

And here are my goals for June:

  • Not flip out when Alan "remodels" our kitchen in a few weeks.
  • Finish my first 5k race in under 40 minutes. I just ran my fastest 5k ever while in my hometown at 39:49 so I know it's possible!
  • Get my blog stats back up to at least where they were in April.
  • Document more recipes for the blog. This ties in with getting my stats back up, but I create all sorts of recipes all the time and especially during CSA season, which started this weekend. I love having all sorts of produce around!
  • Get back into cleaning the house regularly. We have been slacking again and after coming home this past weekend from a week away, I can't deal with the mess anymore.
  • Get back into going to church twice a month. I hate to admit this, but we haven't been since before Christmas. Or, we just have to give up on the church we currently attend and find another. I would like Ewan to go to bible school again but we don't even know when it is!
Oh yeah, I also finally got my haircut at the end of April :-)

On Completing Couch to 5K

About a week and a half ago, I finally completed my last workout of c25k. Since then, I have continued to run anywhere from 1.5 to 3 miles at a time. I officially registered for my first 5k this past week. June 13.

Is it easy? Heck no. It's still really hard for me to run three miles. People post in the running Facebook group I'm in that they run an easy three miles or five miles and I'm just like easy?! But you know what? I can run three miles now too, even if it still is pretty hard. Eventually I will get there though. I have my eye on running a local race called the River Run next year. It's a 10 mile race across the Ohio River. How cool would that be to say that you've ran across the Ohio. What an incredible vantage point on the bridge.

If you want me to be completely, utterly honest, if you were to ask me if I thought that I would really complete c25k, my answer would be no. I had every intention to get as far as I could, but I figured I would get to that 20 minute run and that would be that. Especially since every time I have tried before has failed. Except that this time, I did it. It's such an incredible feeling to know that I can not only run a mile, but multiple miles.

I keep telling myself while running, especially if I'm exhausted and just want to quit that I am strong, that I can do it. And it's so true.

I am strong. I can do it. I am a runner.

It's Ok May 20, 2015

Airing My Dirty Laundry

It's ok...that I am so over Cecily's bedtime shenanigans.

It's ok...that I have had a rootbeer float four nights in a row.

It's ok...that I was watching a show about house hunting in Philadelphia on HGTV last night and really really missed living there.

It's ok...that I don't have much today.

It's ok...that even though my garden that I wrote about yesterday looks fantastic, there's really a horribly invasive chameleon plant growing up through it.

It's ok...that I did yoga for the first time at an impromptu session last night and really enjoyed it!

What's ok with you this week?

Lazy Weekend

It rained on and off all weekend so everything we had planned on doing pretty much didn't happen.

We were gonna go to Ewan's preschool summer social on Friday night...except that it stormed so we didn't bother.

We were gonna have a yard sale Saturday morning...except that we moved it to next weekend due to the rain. Good thing too because our neighbor had one and got rained out mid-morning. It's good in a way that we didn't have it though because we were so not ready so now we have this week to finish pricing everything.

We were, however, able to replace the baker's rack in the kitchen with the cabinet and dry erase board we have wanted to put there since we moved in.

And, our yard is GREEN! which means that the garden has gone crazy!

How was your weekend?

Who Do You Share Yours With?

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #ShareAtSchnucks #CollectiveBias

I love to entertain and if I could, I would have someone over every night of the week. But all of our crazy schedules don't always allow for that. Instead, we try to have semi-monthly dinners with friends and family, especially when it gets warm out. So, when I was picking up supplies at my local Schnucks, I saw that the names were back on the Coke products.

I remember seeing this last year and how cool I thought it was that you could personalize your Coke of choice with your name. I even noticed that there are even more sayings this year, like soulmate or bff, which made me smile. I decided to go with friends and family since that's who was coming to our house.

But as an added bonus, I did get my own, personalized Coke :-)

Since several of us went to the same college, I thought I would make a recipe out of my alumni cookbook for our gathering. Alan made the comment at least once that he could just eat this straight out of the pan, it was that good.

My grand plans of grilling out were foiled by the rain. But, a great time was still had by all regardless and we all enjoyed sharing our Coke, together.

Who will you share your Coke with?

Mother's Day 2015

For Mother's Day weekend, Alan and the kids surprised me with a trip to Nashville to go to the Tennessee Renaissance Festival and a weekend getaway. I have written about going to the Renaissance Fair before and how much fun it was, so I was super excited to go again. I had no idea there was one so close to us!

Even though it was crazy hot and part of my shoulder where I missed the sunscreen got fried, we all had a really good time. The joust is my favorite and the kids really enjoyed it too. They both left with wooden swords of their own ;-)

I was so proud of him for doing this. He got the dragon too!

Afterwards we went to the outlet mall and then Opry Mills to do a little shopping. Well, Alan wanted me to go so I would spend some money on myself and get a few things I need because I almost never do. Believe me, I did. I had a bunch of gift cards for places that where I needed things and just have never gone - it was so nice to actually use them haha. We took the kids to Rainforest Cafe for dinner afterwards and they both loved all the animals. Cecily wasn't quite sure what to make of it at first, but by the end, she was having a blast.

Today we went to the zoo and then to the Parthenon before heading home. Bet you didn't know that the only full scale replica of the Parthenon is located in Nashville. It was constructed during the Centennial Exposition held in Nashville in 1897. Basically, it was a world's fair.

Since I'm not entirely sure if I will ever get to see the real Parthenon, I was super excited to visit. It's been something I have been wanting to do for ages.

This kid cracks me up!

We got back earlier this evening and even though we were all exhausted, it was a great Mother's Day!

How was your Mother's Day?

I Am Valid

I kind of had a mental breakdown last night.

You know, the kind where you just bawl your eyes out and cry yourself to sleep. I went to the last meeting for the year of the organization I have been counting down until my tenure is complete and something was said that was offensive and I was really upset. Not only that, but I have always felt out of place within this organization and almost always come home feeling unappreciated and unwelcome. For someone that was an officer and who does do did a lot, that is pretty hurtful. And especially for someone who feels out of place in pretty much all social situations because they're an introvert.

I posted on my Instagram and personal Facebook page saying that I am having a rough day (I am - both Alan and I are) and that I could really just use some love and someone to tell me that I am ok, that there's nothing wrong with me - because honestly that's how I feel most of the time. That there must be something wrong with me because I don't feel like I fit in anywhere.

In the grand scheme of things it seems silly that I feel this way. But it is how I feel.

And my feelings are valid, whether or not you may think so. It's kind of like "at least you have a healthy baby." Of course you're grateful, but how you feel about your birth matters too. I know that it probably comes across as attention-seeking or whatever - in a way it is and I know that there are those out there that are like "I don't need someone like her in my life." But you know what? Some days you just need someone to tell you that you are loved, that you are appreciated and that you are welcome.

Today is one of those days.

It's Ok Cinco de Mayo Edition

Airing My Dirty Laundry

...that I celebrated Cinco de Mayo on Sunday.

...that I know why Cinco de Mayo is celebrated.

...that at my band concert last week I witnessed a 50 year old man throw a temper tantrum because he didn't come to any rehearsals and just showed up to the concert expecting to play the solos and I played them instead.

...that I killed it at that concert.

...that coyotes sound like really annoying dogs.

...that they sound like they're right over the fence.

...that I tried to delete Disqus from my blog and my comments were either missing or completely messed up.

...that my oatmeal cranberry chocolate chip cookies were a miserable fail.

...that so was my chocolate cake with an orange glaze I made last week.

...that I am super excited about our trip this weekend!

What's ok with you this week?

Winery Day

This past weekend a couple friends and I went to several nearby wineries across the river in Kentucky. One of my friends mentioned a couple months ago that she had never been to a winery so I thought I would plan a winery day.

We started the day out with a drive to Owensboro...and had to make a pit stop at Target to pick up some princesses.

After that, it was all wine fun.

The first winery we went to wasn't what you would picture when you visit a winery, but they had the best blackberry wine I have ever tasted. It was like blackberries in a bottle!

The next winery was very scenic and we were able taste all the wine.

We then visited the winery closest to us and probably my favorite of the ones we visited. Plus, they had cheese!

We were late getting back from the last winery, but I'm so glad we went because as the driver, it was definitely the most fun - sorry girls but you were hilarious! :-)

I'm so glad that we finally got to do this and I cannot wait until we do it again!

April Recap and May Goals

I can't believe it's already May. Time just flies by when you're having run right?

Here's how I did in April:
  • Finish c25k and register for my first 5k. Done. Well it will be this weekend. I have one more day to go!
  • Put together our raised beds and start planting our garden. Done. We got everything planted and have begun using some of the greens and herbs. I can't wait until we have all the veggies from the garden and our CSA. Now to deal with the chamelion plant...any ideas?
  • Sort items for our yard sale. We plan on having a yard sale in May and I really need to get on going through our stuff to figure out what to put in it. Our yard sale is in two weeks and I am planning on sorting some this weekend and then in the evenings over the next few weeks.
And here are my goals for May:
  • Sort and price items for the yard sale.
  • Sign up for my 5k. I know which one I'm doing, I just haven't signed up yet because I was out of fun money.
  • Enjoy the weekend trip Alan has planned this month. Since I don't get an actual vacation this year due to helping with my mom, Alan is planning a trip over Mothers' Day weekend so we can get away for a few days.
  • Not flip out when Alan "remodels" our kitchen in a few weeks. Alan is taking a week of vacation to paint our kitchen cabinets and replace the hardware to spruce up our kitchen. I know that it's going to be all out of sorts and it will be stressful keeping the kids out of everything.
What do you have planned this month? Link up below!
