Last weekend, I completed my first ever 5k and was really mad and disappointed that I walked part of it. I wasn't sure if I was going to sign up for another 5k this weekend to redeem myself, but a friend talked me into it. I'm so glad I did!
Due to all the rain from Tropical Storm Bill, the temperature was around 70 degrees and it was raining on and off and windy coming off the river. But, it felt awesome. The complete opposite from last weekend where it was nasty hot and just gross.
There were only about 40 people in this race and it was nice because everyone was so friendly and encouraging. I stopped to tie my shoe in the first mile and then I walked for about 10 seconds at the water stop because I couldn't get anything in my mouth while running. My time was 41:28.1 - over 90 seconds better than last week. This was even with the crazy hills through the park along the Ohio in Henderson and with getting a blister on my heel! I just went my own pace and didn't try to keep up with people ahead of me. Even though it was hard, especially with those hills, not once did I reach the point of this is madness, why am I doing this like I did last week. In fact, I am so glad Mary talked me into doing it because it was a lot of fun. I don't plan on running a race again until August because it's so hot here but I am definitely going to continue training for a 10k.
I definitely have the runner's bug!
