My Kid is Totally THAT Kid

The biter, the hitter, the pincher, the scratcher. That's Cecily. And she's on the verge of getting kicked out of daycare.

How is it that my little girl is THAT kid? It breaks my heart because she is such a loving little girl and we can't figure out why she's doing this. Our daycare provider has recommended that a early childhood specialist come in to observe her to see if they can figure it out and come up with ways to help our daycare handle her.

Now, when I heard the word specialist, I totally (and still am) freaked out. Apparently they're just there to try to help our provider, but now I'm terrified they're going to recommend all sorts of tests to try to diagnose her with something. She's not even two, this is probably a horrible phase she's going through.

We love our provider and she's really good with the kids. Only time will tell what happens, but if we do lose our provider, I don't know what we're gonna do.

  1. I've had several friend go through something similar with their little ones. Some kids just go through this phase without any real reason. In the cases of my friends, all the kids grew out of it, but a few did have to change daycare providers in the process. My heart goes out to you. Hang in there!

  3. Thanks! I really hope we don't have to switch because we love her and she's so good with the kids. Plus, she's right in line with the "crunchy" way of life, which is awesome and I'm afraid that we won't be able to find someone else like her if she were to be kicked out.

  4. Ewan went through a phase where he bit for maybe a month, but Cecily has been doing this for awhile now. She needs to stop!

  5. Oh no--poor Cecily! I hope that the specialist can give you some solid advice on how to cope with it. If it makes you feel any better, Britton LOVES biting and scratching, too, and thinks it is hilarious whenever I yell out or cry. She is usually so sweet and it upsets me that she finds this behavior funny. There's literally nothing I can do because she's so little and she doesn't understand punishment yet. Let me know if the specialist gives any good advice!

  6. That's part of the problem...she can't articulate yet why she's doing it if it's not obvious.

  7. I don't think you will be kicked out - Praying that doesn't happen - Cael LOVES seeing his cousins at school 2x a week :) Let me know how the specialist appointment goes - when is it?

  8. I have no idea when it is. She said that it would probably be within a week or two. Until I know what the "specialist" thinks, I can't help but freak out though!
