I'm honestly not sure how it happened, but it happened back in May while on the elliptical at the gym. I remember stepping off when I was done and my foot hurt like crazy - I couldn't put any pressure on my heel. I thought that maybe my weight was distributed unevenly or something and that it would go away in a day or so. Which it did, only to come back every time I went to the gym and was lasting for longer and longer periods of time before getting better. I didn't want to go to the doctor at first because I figured that the doctor would tell me that it's nothing and to just deal with it.
Finally, after dealing with barely being able to walk for almost two months, I went to the doctor in the beginning of July and was told that I had developed plantar fasciitis.
Basically, the ligament that connects at your heel and ball of your foot is inflamed and hurts like you wouldn't believe. It's really really awful. What's really sucky about it is that I haven't been able to exercise since the beginning of June...and I had intending on training all summer so I could run my first 5K in August.
I finally got the green light to do light exercise this past week and I have been taking short walks on my lunch at work. However, I am nowhere near ready for a 5K and it's incredibly frustrating. I just want my foot to stop hurting period. It's so much better than it was, but I have to be careful and only wear certain shoes and not be on my feet for long periods of time. You have no idea how much it kills me to wear sneakers all day during the summer instead of flip flops. No idea.
I'm hoping that my foot will feel better and I can begin training again soon. I can tell that my mood has been affected by the lack of exercise and I feel like I'm losing my mind at times!
