Travel Thursday: Charleston

You may have noticed that I didn't really blog much last week. That's because we were on vacation! We went to Charleston, South Carolina and had a blast! There will be more in depth posts about specific parts of our vacation, but I wanted to start with an overview of what we did.

We had originally intended on making the 10 hour drive Monday, but Alan suggested driving about halfway to Chattanooga, TN Sunday morning and spending the afternoon there exploring the Tennessee Aquarium and the riverfront. As usual, it was a great idea and we had a blast! However, I left my camera in the car so I didn't get any photos and haven't "borrowed" any of Alan's yet. We finished our drive to Charleston Monday and when we got to our hotel we just decided to go to dinner and then take the kids to the pool. They of course had a blast!

Tuesday we went to the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry, which was really really cool!

We then spent the rest of the morning walking around Charleston and the kids and I played in the fountain at Waterfront Park.

 Gotta love Alan's photos!

We then went to see the Angel Oak. This was seriously Alan's favorite part of our trip and I will admit that it was really really cool.

The tree is anywhere from 500-1500 years old and is the oldest living thing east of the Rockies. It is HUGE!

Our trip wouldn't have been complete without a beach day, which was Wednesday. We went to Folly Beach, which was the closest to our hotel. We later found out that there's a really dangerous undertow there...oops! Even so, we all had a really great morning there and the kids loved their first time in the ocean. Cecily was actually dancing in the water for probably 10 minutes. It was so so cute and I really wish I would've gotten a video.

Several other things we did were go to Charles Towne Landing, so Ewan could see a real "pirate" ship.

Magnolia Plantation so I could visit some gardens

Took a walk along the Battery

And visited Ft. Sumter

There is so much to do in the Charleston area that we didn't get to do so Alan and I have decided that we're going to make another trip sometime, just the two of us. But in the fall or spring because holy cow it was hot at the end of May!
Have you taken a vacation this year? Where did you go?

  8. I would've loved to have done more and if the kids weren't with us we would've. But, we still did a lot and they did really well too!

  9. I could've spent all day or several days exploring plantations. Whenever Alan and I go back without the kids, we will do just that!
