Travel Thursday: Atlantic City

I posted about the first half of my Jersey Shore weekend the last Travel Thursday, when we went to Cape May. We spent the second half of the weekend in Atlantic City.

I was expecting Atlantic City to be like Vegas, and it was. Except that outside of the boardwalk, it's really rundown. I guess you know where all the money goes!

Alan and I spent some time playing slots and walking up and down the boardwalk. It was during this trip that I learned Alan has incredible luck gambling. I was done with my $20 in about two minutes. He made his last for several hours!

Because we went in April. there wasn't much going on on the pier, but I of course had to dip my toes in the ocean. I also collected some shells while there. How crazy is it that I have larger shells from New Jersey than I do from Florida!

I'll be honest, it was my first (and only) trip to the Jersey shore and I must say that I wasn't all that impressed with the hype. Sorry those of you from New Jersey, but I much prefer the beaches of Delaware!

Meet Sarah, who blogs over at Mustard Seed Mommy

- She played the guitar, saxophone and piano in high school and life revolved around music. Now she shares the beauty of music with her children!

- She loves to work in the kitchen, baking and cooking are both so relaxing
and enjoyable!

- Her blog and Facebook chat are pretty much her only source of
adult interaction these days... as a one car family she's stuck at home most days, even though she doesn't mind.

  1. I have never been to the upper east coast. I have been to Florida and Vegas though! Also, my husband has more gambling luck than I do as well!

  5. My husband refuses to go to Vegas with me because he says he doesn't want to go somewhere that I've already been twice. Silly guy!

  6. Sorry to hear you weren't impressed. I LOVE Atlantic City...especially in the summertime. I love going in the water when the waves come crashing close to shore. Only bad experience...got clipped on my toe by what I think may have been a crab (i hope a crab)...anyways I love the atmosphere at night, walking on the Boardwalk when the lights are flickering. I like peeking in on the outlets. I love lounging in the outdoor jacuzzis at the casino hotels, and absolutely love diving head first into a really good buffet. We go nearly every year.

  7. I have never been to Atlantic City, but have always wanted to go. I've always wanted to walk the Boardwalk. I have been to Las Vegas and I remember how crazy it was. We had a lot of fun though.

  8. Vegas IS a lot of fun - it's like being in a movie. I had a blast when I went there, and actually explored a lot more activities, like shows, events and special activities than I do/did in Atlantic City. But, to me, these are two totally different places with their own unique charm and I might be slightly more partial to A.C. because there are way less people to deal with there, and because of the beach.

  9. Looks beautiful. We live in Scotland and totally dream of visiting somewhere like this. When the kids are big we will eventually get there. Still working on becoming rich enough for the flights! Gorgeous photos!

  10. You should visit Brighton! The beach isn't sand, but there's a great pier.

  11. I prefer Lewes, DE over AC because of the historic charm and there aren't nearly as many people as there are in AC.

  12. For a first-ish time beach go-er, which one would you recommend? I'd love to take a weekend with my fiancee and I'm looking for some ideas.

  13. My youngest decided to turn breech between my 39th and 40th week of pregnancy. Needless to say I ended up with a c-section due to the circumstances.

  14. That all depends on where you're located :-) When we lived in Philly, we would always go to Cape Henlopen State Park and Lewes, DE. Lewes is a very historic town and much more laid back than Rehoboth or Dewey and much more so than the shore.

  15. I would love to see the ocean up north. I've seen it by VA and FL. That's an awesome boardwalk!
