The Big Latch On

The first week of August is World Breastfeeding Week and the month of August is National Breastfeeding Month here in the US. As such, I participated in the Big Latch On this past weekend. The Big Latch On is when groups of breastfeeding woman come together throughout the world to nurse their children at the same time and try to break records.

The event here was held at our local crunchy natural family store. It was basically a bunch of us just hanging out, nursing our kids. I also brought Ewan so that Alan could finish painting the basement vent in his office. He had never met any of the kids that were there before and he's fairly shy around people he doesn't know. But, he still had a good time - there was this drop ball game thing that he LOVED. I was seriously afraid I was going to have to get him one to get him out of the store!

In all honesty, I knew about three people there and felt a little out of place because they all knew each other but it was still a cool thing to do. Maybe I'll be able to do something like this again sometime. What about you? Have you ever participated in a large event like this?

  1. I have never participated in something like this, but I would LOVE TO though! I'm from a more rural area so we don't have any big cities by us and I think that's the problem. But I think it's an awesome idea! Happy Breastfeeding Week! :)

  2. I overslept that morning and didn't make it out otherwise you would have known 1 more person there. My apologies! :) But we didnt have enough time to nurse Cael and get everyone ready & packed up to head down there. I hope it was a lot of fun though! Even if you didn't know many ladies there. Whoo World Breastfeeding Week!

  3. I never have, but I think it's awesome. I wasn't able to breastfeed either of my kids, and it truly makes me sad. :(
