Speaking of Entertaining...

Alan and I had my friend Melanie and her boyfriend, Danny, over for dinner Friday night. I was going to grill chicken marinated with my aunt's awesome recipe, but the marinade killed the charcoal so I had to cook them on the stove. Oops! Other than the chicken, I made corn on the cob, green beans and peach cobbler. Yummy!
After dinner, we all went to the pool for a swim. Ewan has finally warmed up to the pool and loves the water. I can't wait to take him back to the lake in a month!

Saturday we went to Louisville. Alan and I were originally supposed to go to a retreat this weekend for work, but it got postponed. But, we decided to go to Louisville for the rest of the weekend anyways. We had originally intended on staying Saturday night since Alan's parents were already going to be watching Ewan. So, I FINALLY got to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. It was ok. I'm a little disappointed with the final battle. I thought it would be much more than it was. I will also admit that I'm a little sad that it's all over. Yes, I know I'm a nerd :-)

Today was our niece, Grace's 4th birthday party. Her actual birthday is tomorrow, but since that's a Monday, we celebrated today. She got some really nice stuff, but the best present was the swingset her parents bought for her and her sister, Kate. I always wanted a swingset as a kid, and they have an awesome one with a climbing wall, three swings, a slide, sandbox and playhouse at the top. Seriously awesome. I didn't even think to bring my camera and I should have because there was a really cute photo of Grace, Kate and Ewan.

All in all, it was a great weekend. I'm so not ready to go to work tomorrow!

Mary's Shower

I'm in my friend Mary's wedding and I was in charge of planning her bridal shower last weekend. It was a success! Since I love party planning and entertaining and I hardly ever get to do so, I had a lot of fun planning everything. I think I could totally do party/wedding planning as a career!

Here are a few photos of the occasion. My camera battery died so I didn't get pictures of her bachelorette party. Oops!

I Just Don't Get It

I like to consider myself a pretty good cook. Most everything I make turns out well and is pretty yummy.

Except this week. Everything I've made has turned out horribly, even if I follow a recipe. I don't get it! I'm making cupcakes for my friend's bridal shower on Saturday and unfortunately, I'm going to have to buy them because the two batches I just made are not usable. I'm making more food on Saturday morning too. Let's just hope my mad cooking skills come back before then!

Anniversary Trip

I'm so excited for our anniversary trip this year! Our anniversary isn't until October, so we aren't going until the fall, but we're going to Biltmore, one of the places on my list that I really want to see. We're also planning on going to a Carolina Panthers game since we'll only be a couple hours away from Charlotte and they are Alan's favorite football team. We won't be going during the weekend closest to our anniversary since Alan will be at the Trust conference that week...now we need to pick a weekend to go so I can start planning for real!

Six Month Appointment

Ewan had his six month checkup this morning. He is 16 lbs 4.5 oz and 26.5 inches. I was actually surprised that he wasn't over 17 lbs with the way this kid loves food! He also barely cried when he got his shots and was ready to play about 5 minutes later.

Wascally Wabbit!

You know how I posted recently about how excited I am about my garden?

Yeah...I was gone for three days for work and came home tonight to see that this darn rabbit that has been hanging around our townhouse building ate ALL of my green bean plants and one of my green pepper plants.

I am SO MAD!!!

I went and bought some fencing at Home Depot tonight so hopefully that keeps it out and I can save what is left.

Busy Busy Weekend

While this weekend was the first in about a month that we haven't been traveling somewhere, we had a busy weekend. Ewan had his 6 month pictures yesterday and then we did some errands. We also took him in the pool at our apartment complex for the first time after it had cooled off a bit in the evening. While we didn't stay very long, he LOVED it. There was hardly anyone there so we've decided that going to the pool will be our Saturday night tradition when we're not going somewhere else. I grew up loving the water, and I really want to pass that on to Ewan.

This morning we met an old friend from SAI, Regan, at the zoo. She has a son, Alexander, who was born a week and a half before Ewan. We've been trying to plan a playdate for a while now and it was nice to finally be able to do it! Ewan stayed awake the entire time and actually paid attention to the animals. He loved the monkeys, they cracked him up!

Ewan and Alexander were obsessed with each other!

Garden

Seeing others' recent posts about their garden harvest makes me can't wait until I can harvest my own veggies. I was late in planting this year so my plants are only just now blooming. If the darn rabbit that keeps coming around doesn't eat everything, I'm going to have green peppers, green beans and tomatoes growing out of my ears! My tomato plant is already chest high and has grown out of its cage. I've never had much luck with tomatoes, so I'm excited. I love putting fresh tomatoes in dishes and making my own pasta sauce. I have been able to use my herbs though. Fresh veggies and herbs are amazing.
I wish I had taken before and after pictures of our patio. It was covered in weeds when we moved in and while we didn't clear the rocks out, I got rid of all the weeds and was able to create a space for my veggies. Now I just need to figure out how to get rid of the rabbit...

Six Month Pictures

We had Ewan's six month pictures taken this morning. He did really well and we got some really cute photos. I can't wait until we get them July 20th!

Simply Gorgeous

Six Months!

Ewan is six months old today!

He can do all sorts of things now. He loves to blow raspberries, which cracks everyone around him up. He's rolling everywhere, and can sit up on his own for a few seconds before toppling over. He also LOVES food and is constantly trying to steal anything and everything we're eating. So far he's tried sweet potatoes, squash, green beans, peas, carrots and prunes. He's eaten everything, but he wasn't so sure about the squash and prunes.

We're getting his six month pictures taken on Saturday...I've been planning this for months it seems. I can't wait to see how they turn out!

Happy 4th of July!

We went up to my family's lake house in northeast Indiana for 4th of July weekend. All of three of us had a blast! We drove up from Alan's parents house in Louisville Saturday morning and got there around noon. I took Ewan swimming for the first time. He wasn't so sure about it, but he didn't freak out. A bunch of my family was up there and we had a cookout before the fireworks. We normally go out in the boat for the fireworks, but we thought Ewan might be scared of them so Alan and I stayed at the house. My grandma, aunt, great-aunt and uncle went. Sunday, we just hung out at the house. We were going to take Ewan on his first boat ride, but he's too big for the life jacket I bought! Neither Alan nor I were comfortable taking him out in the boat without a life jacket on so I'm going to try to find an infant one that fits better. Next time we're up there, he'll be going in the boat though! Today we went to the outlet mall before making the 6 hour drive back to Evansville. We actually got back in time to see the fireworks here in town, but we were all exhausted so we decided just take it easy this evening.

Yum! Carrots!

I just love watching him experience new things. Especially at the lake since it's a place that is dear to my heart.
