Easter Weekend

This past weekend my mom, grandma and uncle came down for Easter. They didn't get here until Saturday evening and it poured pretty much all weekend, but it was still nice to see them. And I know they were happy to see us...well Ewan at least!  They haven't seen him in person since Alan and I took him to the Fort when he was 3 weeks old.

I made an Easter dinner and Alan and I played with Ewan's toys. He got a teether, rattle, racecar set, bunny, bear and shape sorter. Yes, I'm aware that we're spoiling this kid!

I'm getting better at taking photos, so here are a few

Sunday

On Sunday, Ewan and I went for a walk along the new greenway trail in Newburgh with Melanie. I used to rollerblade on the River Greenway in Fort Wayne and in Muncie all the time. When we moved to PA, I stopped because I couldn't find a decent trail in the area and I've really missed it. Well, I think I've found one! It just opened and it's really nice. I'll be able to take Ewan and walk or rollerblade if I want.

We also decided to invite Melanie and Rachel, Eric and Anya over for an impromptu dinner. We were going to grill out, but it cooled down considerably so we decided to just make dinner instead. I made teriyaki chicken kabobs with rice. If I must say so myself, they were awesome. We haven't entertained since before we moved to PA so it's been really nice to be able to hang out with and have people over!

Busy Weekend

In addition to the Harlaxton Anniversary stuff going on, Alan and I took Ewan to Louisville to see my in-laws on Saturday. My family is coming down for Easter this weekend so we promised Alan's parents they would get to see him this weekend. What's funny is that when we got there, Alan and I both passed out! We were exhausted apparently. I'm trying to be better about taking photos so here are a few.

Harlaxton Reunion

The 40th anniversary of UE's Harlaxton study abroad program is this year, and the UE celebration was this past weekend. When I found out about it, I really wanted to go since I knew that there's no way we would be able to go on the alumni trip to England this summer for the celebration there. When we decided we were moving to Evansville, I was excited because I knew that I would get to go to something.

My friend Steph, her husband Chris and her sister Kayla came down from Chicago for the celebration and it was really good to see them. I haven't hung out with Steph other than at weddings since before I started grad school and I've only seen Chris and their wedding and at mine. I actually ran into them after I checked in at the new student union, which is really nice for those of you that haven't been there yet. The parking lot that was next to Hughes and Graves is gone and it is now a plaza.

Oh yeah, for my Moore Hall friends, I found a spot on Rotherwood and managed to wedge my car in. It may be 10 years later and with a different car, but things never change ha!

While Steph went to talk with her archaeology professors, I went up the stairs to the history department to see who all was up there. I haven't been good about keeping in touch with my former professors, so I wasn't sure if they would even remember me, but they did (or at least they said so!). I had a really good chat with Dr. Gahan and Dr. Parks and Dr. Gahan wants me to be on an alumni panel to speak to humanities students about career opportunities that are out there. I'm glad to do it and even more glad that I'm finally using my degrees to be able to do so!

I spent a little too much time chatting with them and missed the majority of Dr. Bujak's lecture, which is what I really wanted to catch, but I was able to hear the end of it and what I did hear was interesting. It was on the history of the manor, which we all know the basics, but this was much more in depth, and it's stuff that I do in my work now. I didn't get a chance to talk to him other than say a quick hello because he was mobbed by students afterward and I really wish I would've gotten the chance. I wasn't able to go to anything that was going on on Saturday because Alan and I had promised my inlaws that we would bring Ewan to see them since my family's coming down for Easter this weekend. I guess that means I better get my butt on a plane sooner rather than later to visit Harlaxton!

Alan, Ewan and I met Chris and Steph at the Gerst Haus for dinner later in the evening. That was one of the restaurants on my list of places to take Alan and it was yummy as usual. They came over and hung out at our place for a bit and Rachael D, who had gotten into town that evening came over as well. I haven't seen her in years either so it was great to catch up with everyone!

Happy Easter!

We took Ewan to see the Easter Bunny tonight. He was more interested in pulling the bunny's fur than looking at the camera and just like his Daddy, he wouldn't smile for the camera. At least he didn't cry though...we'll save that for next year!

Finally!

As some of you may have figured out by my Facebook status, I FINALLY have a job using my degrees! On Friday, I was officially hired on at Cultural Resource Analysts, the firm for which Alan works here in Evansville. For now, it's part time to eventually transition to full time, but I'm ok with that right now. I'm just super excited that I finally am going to be working in preservation. Never in a million years did I think it would happen by moving back to Indiana. No more crappy retail or customer service jobs for me!

Louisville Weekend

This weekend Alan, Ewan and I went to Alan's parents' for the weekend. Alan's brother, Chris, and his fiance, Megan, and her son, Jayden, drove in from St. Louis for the weekend. They hadn't met Ewan yet, so they were excited...well Megan was at least! We got in Friday evening and were exhausted so we stayed up until they arrived and then went to bed. Poor kiddo was so tired he only woke up once all night.

Saturday we stayed around the house and Alan's other brother, Bob, came over with his wife, Danielle, and their younger kids, Gabbie, Grace and Kate. We played with the kids all day long, except for a trip to Best Buy/Walmart, where Alan and Chris bought Nerf guns for an all out battle later in the evening. When they were gone, Danielle, Gabbie and I attempted to go ride horses in Iroquois Park...except that the stables are now used by the Louisville Police! Oh well, there's always Pokagon for me!

Alan's dad grilled hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken for dinner and it was yummy. I haven't had a burger since July so I was very much looking forward  to it. After dinner Bob, Chris and Alan had their Nerf war with the kids while us girls were innocent casualties...well at first. I decided I was going to stop the war one dart at a time and started slyly collecting them, but then I decided to get in on the action as well. I "borrowed" a gun and started shooting at them from the kitchen with the help of Alan's dad. I was eventually found out though and then they attacked me! They're going to be finding darts for months ha!

Chris and Megan had to leave early this morning to go back to St. Louis but Alan and I stuck around for a bit. Right as we were getting ready to leave, Bob called and wanted to know if we wanted to meet them at the zoo. We had discussed maybe going to the zoo when we got back to Evansville since it was so nice today, so we decided to use our zoo pass in Louisville since we get in for free there too. I'm glad we did! We all had a good time and Ewan didn't sleep through all of it either. I'm really glad I got him sunscreen last week because he definitely needed it! I feel so bad because he got a little burnt on his head, I will definitely be getting him a hat this week! I, on the other hand, should've used his sunscreen, but I didn't think about it until we were leaving, because I got fried! I do this to myself every year, you would think I would learn...

And now, a few pictures from the weekend, well today because I didn't take any yesterday...I really need to work on that, but that's a post for another day :-)
