Sorry It's Taken So Long

to post pictures of our new furniture. It's been a busy couple of weeks. Last Saturday, I took Alan to NYC as part of his Valentine's Day present to see the Tim Burton exhibit at the MoMA. Tim Burton's stuff really isn't my thing, but it was kinda neat. The majority of the exhibit was about his artwork and not his films. I didn't know he started as an animator for Disney, but it's not wonder Disney didn't use any of his stuff for their films...that guy is demented! Alan really enjoyed it though, which is all that matters.
We had planned on going up to Harlem to the Cloisters, which are part of the MoMA, but it was cold and rainy and I really didn't feel like walking around the park in the cold, so we spent the rest of our time there wandering around Macy's and Toys R Us in Times Square. It was nice to get away from Boothwyn for a day!
Yesterday we went to an auction, and boy did I get fried! I didn't think to put on sunscreen for the day, but uhm, yeah, definitely should have! My arms, face and chest are RED. I don't think I've been this burnt since I went to Hawaii in college. I say this every time I get a bad burn, but now I know to wear sunscreen! Let's just say that when we go to Florida in a month, I will be putting on SPF 50 or higher. I really don't want to deal with a burn like this while on vacation.
And now, for the much awaited furniture photos...

For Those Gardeners Out There

I found this today. I've become an avid gardener, even though I only have a container garden since we live in a 2nd floor apartment. Last summer I grew green beans, peppers, carrots and tomatoes, as well as tons of herbs and flowers. I'm very excited that the weather has finally warmed up enough that I can start planting my garden! I started fairly late last year, I didn't really plant anything until mid-May, and I had tomatoes growing when we got back from our honeymoon in November! This year, I'm starting early (earlier?) and planting when I get home from work this week.

Yay for fresh veggies and herbs this summer!

New Furniture!

So Alan and I decided to basically get an entire new living room set minus the couch yesterday. We had been in Target on Friday night (it's how we kill time after dinner before going to the movies) and saw this entertainment center that we both really liked. Well, when we went grocery shopping yesterday, we looked at it again and also looked at the side tables, desk and bookshelf that go with it. Alan wanted to measure his receiver to make sure that it would fit in the entertainment center, but if it did, we were coming back to get everything. When we got home, Alan measured while I looked at the entire collection online. Come to find out that there's a bedroom, office, dining and living room set. So...we bought everything! j/k! Seriously, we wound up going back to purchase the desk, hutch, bookshelf, entertainment center and side tables. I eventually want to get the couch table, desk chair and filing cabinet that go with it. There's a coffee table as well, but i made a deal with Alan that he gets his metal and glass coffee table for allowing me to have the rest of the living room set. We won't get another couch until we move, and I like the couch we have just fine. Almost all the old furniture is stuff Alan bought at an auction when he moved to Muncie for grad school. It's so nice to finally have stuff that "our's"!

I'm stuck at work at the moment, but Alan's busy putting everything together as I type. Our living room looked like we just moved in yesterday and this morning. I can't wait to get home to see what everything looks like.

Here's the collection from Target's website:

Manhattan Living Room Collection
Manhattan Home Office Collection

I know, I know. It's from Target, right. But hey, Target has a lot of stuff we like. And, it's not too expensive, but not so cheap that it falls apart immediately either.

I will post pics of our living room when I get home tonight!

On a Completely Different Note...

...I have bronchitis! Boo!

I got the flu a couple weeks ago, and I've had this cough that just won't go away. It got worse over the weekend and I finally caved and went to the doctor this afternoon. Since I'm trying to save all my vacation/sick time for Florida and other trips we want to take, I can't take any days off. At least Shawn let me leave early today. Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon and get rid of this crap!

I've been meaning to update...

...but it's been a busy last few weeks!

This past weekend my mom and grandma took the train from Fort Wayne out to Philly to visit us for Easter. It was very nice to see them, even though I was ready for them to go home this morning. Alan and I took them to Longwood Gardens, which they loved, and cooked them Easter dinner yesterday. I'm glad they were able to come out here, especially since it might be Christmas before I see them again.

The weekend before, we flew to Louisville, where Alan stayed with his family for the weekend, and I drove to Evansville for my friend Rachel's baby shower. It was good to see her, especially since I know she's busy getting ready for baby and I probably won't get much of a chance to talk to her once she's born.

I spent Saturday night with Melanie and we went to this wine bar in downtown Evansville. It was a blast. I never get to go out like that here, and I never have anyone to drink wine with since Alan thinks it's disgusting. I was really glad to be able to spend some time with her, especially since I didn't get much of a chance to talk to her at the wedding.

We have a busy couple months ahead. We're going to NYC in a few weeks to the Tim Burton exhibit at the MoMA, then to Gettysburg, Williamsburg, a modern architectural tour of Philly and then finally Florida. I know April and May will fly by, and I'll be on that plane to Orlando. Oh, how I love flying! :-)
