So I joined the band! I've been wanting to do so ever since we moved out here, but since I had a crazy work schedule at Target, there was no way I was able to. Now that I'm no longer there, I finally sent an email to see if I could join, and even though they're over on clarinets already, they let me. Yay! I went to my first rehearsal last Wednesday, and let's just say that I could definitely tell I haven't played in three years. By the end of rehearsal, it had come back to me, somewhat, but it saddens me a little to think at how far my skill level has sunk since I was in high school, or even college. When I was in college, I played in Wind Ensemble, and even though the parts I was playing weren't challenging in the least, I still played twice a week.
I'm currently playing mainly second, and I'm ok with that. Actually, the few pieces that I am playing first on, I think I would rather play second. If you had asked me that a few years ago what part I was playing, I would be pissed to be playing second, but now it doesn't matter to me, as long as I get to play again. It's so nice to be able to do something that I really enjoy again.
One of the perks of getting away from retail hell.
